[Astate Colony]
It was hot and muggy. Beads of sweat poured down Cilvia's forehead as she tried her best to keep focus inside the sweltering EVA suit "how bad is it?" She asked Commander Korasi, the colony's newest Chief Science Officer. The middle aged Deltan sighed and shook her head "a large amount of radiation- this entire area has been irradiated. All life is either dead or dieing from radiation poisoning."
Cilvia grimaced at that news. If what happened wasn't troubling enough now they had an ecological disaster on their hands. A large cloud of toxic dust was moving northward towards the Federation settlements. Vice Admiral Enor dispatched several ships to the colony to assist in the cleanup and containment but who knew if they could stop it in time "do you have any clue as to what was here? This entire area was supposed to be uninhabited, how the hell did someone get a nuke down here?"
"I have no idea Captain. I'm afraid if there was anything here it has long since been vaporized by the explosion." The Deltan navigated the glassy surface of the epicenter "from our scans of the detonation area and orbital satellite telemetry during the explosion we have estimated that the explosive yield was nearly five thousand terajoules. It was a subsurface detonation from our estimates at a shallow depth."
Next to Cilvia her Romulan counterpart surveyed the damage. The once tropical island was now devoid of any trees and what used to be a sandy surface was now a thick layer of glass leading all the way to the shoreline. "I do not understand how such a device was placed here." Tr'Annhwi spoke plainly "we are not responsible so that only leaves one other." He glared through his black opaque visor at Cilvia. It was an accusatory glare and the physical personification of their argument earlier. No matter how many times she tried to explain to him that they weren't responsible the Romulan wouldn't hear it. Damn arrogant bunch, she thought angrily.
Instead of arguing with the Romulan Cilvia decided to just continue walking. There was very little to look at and very little for her to do here. The action was occurring elsewhere on the colony. Medical teams were being dispatched to the settlements predicted to get hit by the toxic dust cloud if a solution wasn't discovered to deal with it. Right now science teams from the USS Kyoto and USS Sutherland were trying their best to find one. Her teams however were concentrating on investigating the event.
It was a frustrating affair and there were many more questions then answers. Cilvia hated not being able to give Enor a full account. The Admiral's concerns were grave considering the recent diplomatic issues with the Romulan Star Empire. So grave that he already decided to relocate the Typhon Sector command infrastructure to Starbase 145 permanently. Stopping to study the sky Cilvia sighed. There wasn't a cloud to be seen and Cilvia realized there was nothing else she could accomplish here. Looking at Korasi she spoke into her helmet's communicator "I'm returning to the command center Commander. Keep me informed of your investigation."
"I will sir." Korasi answered. Cilvia bid tr'Annwhi farewell and fumbled with the small console located on the EVA suit's arm. She entered the recall code and soon dematerialized. Rematerializing on the transporter PADD of the Quantum Fury she started to pull off her helmet but was quickly stopped by several technicians "wait sir, your suit needs to be treated for residual radiations. One moment Captain, sorry." Cilvia frowned and wondered how long she would have to deal with this crisis.
