[USS Charon] SD240909.05 - Joint Log Part II | Lieutenant Sakarra Tyrax, Ensign Nathaniel Doyle

[Science lab 3, USS Charon]

Sakarra briefly pondered how she could have been so careless as to almost risk an accidental touch, and found that the young science officer's Nehau was one she would naturally take a liking to. No excuse, but certainly an explanation.

Favoring the black haired human with an apologetic look, she continued in her low, melodious voice "If you believe you can find a way to route these readings to the helm, Ensign M'Riarr should be able to avoid such an event."

"Hmmmm" He brought up a diagnostic of the ships current systems, the power fluctuations were effecting everything along the EPS system in the ship. Nathaniel placed his chin in his left hand, his left index finger positioned in front of his mouth. "Hmmmmm"
He stood up in a flurry, nearly colliding with Sakarra, and headed to one of the storage lockers. He opened the locker and pulled out a large container. He opened the container and grabbed what seemed to be an overly large PADD.

He headed back over to the desk, and started to do what seemed to be some kind of transfer. It only took a few seconds and then he turned around to Sakarra "Ahha!"

She had watched his activity with mildly bemused fascination but it was rather obvious he had another innovative solution in mind.
When he turned back towards her with a most satisfied expression on his face, it was all she could do to keep the corners of her mouth from twitching.
"Ahha, Mr Doyle?"

"Yes! Ahha! It should work nicely!"
"I see." she tilted her head and looked up at happily sparkling blue eyes
"Would you care to explain what will work and how?"

"Oh of course!" he replied "You see..." as he handed her the oversized PADD "...we have an all atmosphere portable self propelling probe. Its rated for all environments including no environment" he chuckled.

"Mr Doyle" the young half-Vulcan said calmly "While you have certainly succeeded in astonishing me, I am not certain I follow your logic."

"Well you see, we cant trust the power on the ship at this time, so instead if we use a power source that is not directly linked to the ship. If we put this outside..." He headed to the large container and pulled out a small probe, about the size of two watermelons side by side.
"...and use the receiver on the bridge, it should be powerful enough to supply the bridge with the needed readings, until we can get the power under control!" he finished with a smile.

"Fascinating." she studied the probe for a moment and then stepped closer to take a look at it's sensor array.
"If I understand you correctly you plan on modifying this the same way as Charon's sensors to achieve the higher resolution?"
Considering the circumstances, it was indeed the most practical approach.

"Yep! Lucky for you, this one is already modified! We were contemplating backup scanners incase anything failed, this was one of our backup-backup ideas that luckily we didn't need at the time. Looks like it will come in handy now though!"

"Human tendency to ascribe random chance to 'luck' aside, Mr Doyle…" Sakarra's eyes held a glimmer of mild humor  "In this case I should say it was yet again your resourcefulness which has 'come in handy'. "
Yes, definitely a scientist, taking delight in the unknown and always ready to think of answers before the question has been asked. It was difficult not to feel drawn to such enthusiasm, and telling him of the small miscalculation in his shuttle deflector dish modifications now would seem rather like the human metaphor of 'kicking a puppy'. After all, she'd been able to compensate and the idea had worked for the most part…
"Will you require assistance with launching the probe?"

"Should be all good, if you could take the receiver to the bridge, I should be able to organize everything else." He had a ton of scans to do, but for some reason felt the need to launch the probe himself.
"Was there anything else today Miss Sakarra?"

"Just one more thing, Ensign…" she motioned towards the readouts displayed on the larger console "I am curious how you managed to increase sensor resolution to this degree. If and when it is convenient for you, I would appreciate a 'walk through' as it were."
The young woman made to leave the lab but again stopped by the door to face the human who was already busying himself with the probe, some dark stubble on his face indicating that either he had spent the night here or had left his quarters in a hurry this morning.
"And 'Nicely done', Mr Doyle."
