Aayla was making preperations for the shuttle misssions in her forttess of Solitude and was mapping out recovery times for the sirrrilium. The main science shuttle, the Excalibur, was to carry Aayla and two others to the sirrilium nursery on the other side of the nebula. There Aayla had found a most unsual sight, a ringed N Class Planet with only three techtonic plates, two at the south a north poles and the other in between. The two at the ploes were spinning in a different direction then the one in between and the lack of pushing against one another made for a relatively stable planet for future colonization on the equator.
Aayla had grown up on a planet with two moons, two suns and two rings so the number three seemed alien to her but she shook it off. Then she heard footsteps as someone walked through the grey and black door.
Nathanial had been standing infront of the doors to Stellar Cartography for a few minutes looking over the PADD in his hand. he had been given way too many tasks by the Captain, and needed to delagate some work, he was still deciding between two primary tasks when the door with a will of its own opened infront of him. Deciding now was as good a time as ever he entered Stellar Cartography, Only Aayla was in at this time, which worked out well for Nathanial as she was just who he wanted to see.
"Cadet, a moment of your time" he said.
Aayla sighed and turned around to face the human. 'I'll hold the moment to you Ensign." She replied in an unsualy spunky tone. Maybe it was the coffe she had this morning?
Nathanial smiled and handed Aayla a PADD. "As you can see" He started. "We are all going to be very busy during our stay in the Nebula, as such I am in the need of someone to oversee the operation and running here in Stellar Cartography during our time in the Nebula. Due to not only your backround, but also your history with astrometrics, in conjunction with your current duties I am hereby assigning you as head of Stellar Cartography until further notice. I expect the most up-to-date and accurate mapping of the nebula Cadet, and I am sure that you will be able to nothing but the best."
He paused for a second, allowing it all to sink in, before finishing "Congratulations Cadet."
Though Aayla had no eyes to express her amazement at the suddden promotion, her body seemed to go limp against the console. "Ah, thank you sir but what happened to Ensign Rantek?" Aayla asked in a whispy and cracked tone.
"Well even though the Ensign is more than capable to take on the role, I have need of him heading up a special project, but I am more than sure you will be up to the task." He replied with a small smile.
Aayla leaned against her console for a moment. A Subdepartment head, wow thats far for a Cadet. She thought to her self. "Thank you sir, do you want a status report?" Aayla asked.
"On my desk, every morning Cadet." He said with a slighly formal tone, as if he had said that particular phrase more than a few times. He knew that this would be a trial by fire of sorts, but was confident that she was up to the task, and if she was up to the challenge, a permenant posting could be in order.
"Well I can give you a run down of the sirrilium recovery if you like, I also need to go over with you what the make up of the Excalibur Mission is." Aayla said with a stiff back and slightly less shaky tone.
"That you do, but I think right now you might want to look at your workstation..."
Nathanial pointed to the screen behind her which was displaying an N class planet, a flashing red warning message had appeared in the middle of the screen.
Aayla turned around and as Nathaniel had said, a flashing red warning signal was in the middle of the huge screen. "Something's happening in the planet's core!" Aayla yelled.
Nathanial wanted nothing more to stay and assist with the latest discovery/catastrophe?, but he had a list a mile long of duties to preform and a very important meeting as well. "Cadet, I can leave you with this issue?" he asked, though it was more a statement than a question.
Aayla looked at him and stared at his calmness. "Sir if this planet explodes and ignites the sirrilium it'll take most of the Nebula with it, including us!" Aayla exclaimed.
