"Welcome Ensign, please sit down."  Shiarrael gestured towards the empty chair.  When he took his seat she slid one of the PADDs on her desk towards him "I have reviewing some personnel matters aboard.  Since you have taken the mantle of Chief Science Officer there has been a marked improvement in the efficiency of the department.  I have decided, to promote you to the rank of full Lieutenant so that you may carry out your duties with increased ease."  She smiled.

Nathanial was taken aback, not by the news, rather by the smile, he had not seen the Captain smile for a while now and it caught him of guard. That said he turned his thoughts back to the matter at hand.  "Thank you sir. As always I am here for the ship and for the crew..." and for you, he added silently.   "...And aim to bring you a hard working efficient Science Team!"

"Indeed."  Shiarrael said pleased with his comments.  She enjoyed efficiency.  Doyle had been both efficient and very hard working.  Two traits that she needed on her ship.  "Speaking of your department, how have preparations been going for the nebula survey?"

"They are going well sir. So well in fact all initial preparations are complete."  He said with a slight influence of pride.  And indeed they were going well, other than a slight hiccup with the main sensor pod, things had being going extremely smoothly, even for the Charon.

"Good- the Yy'a has a lot of history.  Stories of missing ships and other less subtle horror stories."  Shiarrael smirked recalling hearing them while she was in the war college "the outer edges may seem tame but it is often prone to dangerous ion and magnetic storms.  Many believe that several pulsars may reside inside the nebula but it has never been investigated by my people.  It would do me honor should you find explanations to these issues."

Nathanial nodded, he felt that a simple 'I will do my best' or similar would stain the conversation, so instead he nodded, and smiled ever so slightly. He knew that many more countless sleeps would arise from this mission, but many new discoveries would also arise, the one thing that drives all scientists...new discoveries.

"I have also decided to promote Cadet Thomas Clipper to Ensign, his performance has been equally impressive as have those of your entire department.  I have nothing further to add Lieutenant and unless you have a question.  You may dismiss yourself."  Shiarrael said.

Nathanial stood up and saluted, as soon as she had saluted back he turned and exited the ready room. He had alot of work ahead of him, and he was determined to make sure that he exceeded the expectations of the Captain, even if it meant he missed out on more sleep, after all, as a Terran once said, 'There is plenty of time to sleep when we are dead."
