ON: [Botany Lab: Shift 2] Technician Smith was hard at work pruning, trimming, watering, and feeding the plant and fungi specimens. She had a schedule to keep, and soon she would need to figure out a method of cross pollination of some of the fruits and edible specimens for the ships chef. Commander Arcos walked in almost unnoticed by Technician Smith. She kept working dismissing the commander as one of the ships volunteers. "Hello, Ms. Smith." Commander Arcos said wondering if perhaps that the technician was a little overwhelmed with duties. For the most part she was only assigned one shift to maintain the lab, but she had always seemed to volunteer another half shift. A bit started as the commander came up behind her as she was measuring the soil nutrients and hydration levels. "Ah … Commander, what can I do for you?" Technician Smith asked. "I just came in to congratulate you Specialist Smith." Arcos said grinning, anticipating a bit of a joyous response. "Specialist?..." She said a bit confused, "Oh my god, you've promoted me." "Yes, due to your recent contributions, and being the most capable botanist on the ship, and assigned to this lab I have no reason not to." Arcos said still grinning. He was happy for her. "Thank you sir… but what about the management of the lab, we still don't have a botany team manager." Specialist smith asked. She had been overwhelmed and had to share the duties with Ensign Vorn. "Yes… that was a dilemma, which is why I am going have you attend management training to sharpen your skills and prepare you to take over as Botany Lab Manager. You'd have a second shift to work, and extended duties and responsibilities. The training will start next week if you are ready and willing." "Yes sir…" she smiled. She had already half taken over for most of the responsibilities and four extra hours dedicated to office work wouldn't be so bad. "… just one thing… " "Yes?" Arcos asked. "Will I get a team to assist me?" Chris asked. "In time we will stop off at a star base and re-crew. I have already put in a request for an assistant to you, until then it's you and our volunteers. I have also begun to search for more volunteers with three prime candidates in mind from the engineering department." She gave a sigh of relief. "Thank Goodness. Volunteers have been running kind of short, but three to six months more isn't so bad. If we could do it, I'd like to have a second assistant." "Eventually, if I can persuade the ships command team I intended to increase our science complement from 24 to 27… according to our suggest complement we are allocated five less crew to our department at present… but good crewman are in short supply." "Understood, is there anything else sir?" She asked wishing to get back to her duties. "Well… if you'd like you may return to duties. Here…" He handed her a PADD. "…This should inform you of your training schedule. We're going to have you shadow a few of our lab managers from the other science departments. And attached is the explanation on paperwork required from all of our inner-department heads." "Thank you." She smiled then turned back to the counter where she began to prepare a root stimulant for one of the dwarfed fruit trees. OFF //Science Report – USS CHARON – Star Date:241102.13// C.
