[USS Charon] SD240908.18 - Personal Log | CHO - Ens Sakarra Tyrax

[USS Charon, Bridge]

"I suggest to those who have the time; visit the planet and enjoy the fruits of your labor."
Sakarra had been about to dismiss the CO's words and return her focus to her console, when a thought occurred to her.
'Well, I do have time, no?'
How strange a sensation that was after all those days, but she welcomed it.
Slowly and deliberately, the young half-Vulcan got out of her seat and waved towards a crewman to replace her. After nodding to the Andorian who looked rather lost and bewildered in the exec officer's chair, she made her way towards the turbolift and the transporter room.

[Mountain range outside Nysinrin, Lyrilia]

She stood alone in the cold, the black slope of a mountain behind her and the now so familiar icy breeze catching loose strands of hair. She did not care.
Right before her, some two kilometers away and several hundred meters below, the dark shapes of Nysinrin's buildings were visible in the fading starlight and beyond that, a majestic mountain already outlined by the golden brightness of a rising sun.
Sakarra could hear the murmur of people in the city like a far away ocean but she kept her unblinking gaze straight ahead. Wrapping her arms around herself more out of reflex than to shield against the cold, the young woman allowed a brief smile to cross her face.

The Rufo-Tyrax system? Grandmother would be insufferably pleased for months once the news reached Betazed. Of course she would not fail to point out to everyone who was willing to listen (and quite likely to those who were not too keen on listening as well) that this was now the fifth star bearing the name of the Twelfth House. The only setback from Lady Lhorexa's point of view would be that there was no romantic story to tell, but knowing her grandmother, Sakarra suspected she would make the most of it.

Just then the sun rose above he snow capped summit, and impossibly white light glanced back at the young half-Vulcan for the briefest of moments, clear and sharp as it reflected off the icy crystals, before the light rolled into the valley below, all gold and warmth and life.
It was a good thing she was alone on that slope, because for several seconds her low, melodious laugh echoed over the still frozen rocks before it was drowned out by the cheers from the city below.
"Heya!" she laughed, the ancient Vulcan cry of delight on seeing something wonderful.

She stood there until the cold wind died away and the rays of sunlight caused the snow to melt on the tree branches. Still as a statue the young woman took in the scents and sounds of a world coming back to life.
Before she pressed her comm badge she cast one last glance at the mountain and another brief smile played across her lips.
"i'ken-tor nash-veh"

-----------
"Heya" - possibly the first word spoken aloud on Vulcan. Usually translated as "Mountain" although the original meaning implies awe and joy at a marvelous sight. If you ask a Vulcan, s/he will simply tell you that both translations are correct and in fact inseparable. Guess one has to be a pointy eared one to get the pun.
