[USS Charon] SD241001.20 - Joint Log "Observer" - Captain Shiarrael Rehu & Colonel Sam Thorten

[USS Charon]

"Computer where is Captain t'Rehu," Sam said as he leaned against the wall outside of his new quarters.  He had checked in with Commander Eithne but if he knew Starfleet regulations he probably had to pay the captain a visit no matter what.  What an annoying regulation, however Sam figured he had better respect it.

"The Captain is in Turbolift 2," the computer replied in its calm voice.

"Destination of Turbolift 2?" Sam asked.  The computer replied in that same semi-annoying that Turbolift 2 was destined for deck 2.  That made Sam smile ever so slightly.  How fortunate that the Captain was actually coming to him.  He made his way over to the turbo lift banks.  Thorten figured that she was just getting off duty; hopefully he could stop her and hand over his orders before she fully relaxed.  He leaned against the wall nearby the turbolift and awaited the lifts doors to open.

"That will be fine."  Shiarrael said exiting the lift followed by her young yeoman who kept pace a few steps behind her "also, there have been recent incidents on the ship that concern me.  Especially the wanton destruction of our recreational facilities, I will be implementing a penalty for any crewmember that disrespects this ship to damage its equipment, especially those that serve the crews needs.  Please add that to my speech."

The young man nodded his head "yes ma'am- no more destroying ship equipment."

Sam smiled ever so slightly.  Ah speech craft.  It was something he had been required to pick up a little bit after he transferred to the ground.  He didn't envy the Captain.  However he did have to interrupt her, as he needed to report in to her.  "Ah.  Captain t'Rehu.  My apologies for interrupting you here.  But I was under orders to check in with you when I arrived, and this is the soonest I believe it could have happened," Sam said before offering her the PADD with his orders on it.

Shiarrael stopped abruptly and the typing yeoman nearly ambled into her back- but a lucky sidestep prevented the grievous error and the young man sighed in relief quietly thanking his reflexes for the quick save.  His eyes looked at Captain who was now studying the newcomer with slight reservation.  She finally dismissed him with a simple nod "we will speak again Ensign."

"Yes ma'am" he answered politely and backtracked to the lift.

"I see."  And she did see- his collar.  Colonel?  Another one?  Her hands slowly reached out and took the waiting PADD.  Shiarrael glanced down at the device and found her suspicion to be correct after a quick perusal of the data "how bothersome" she stated bluntly and shoved the PADD into the Colonel's chest "a second observer?  This is ridiculous.  Certainly Starfleet has better things for people to do?"  She started for her quarters and stopped turning around to glare at the Colonel "are you going to stand there or are you going to follow me?  I'm not done yet."

"Whatever you say Captain," Sam said with a slight smile.  He followed behind her.  "I've been sent to help liason and keep the peace with the Marines that you have recently acquired from the Quantum Fury.  At least that was what they told me before I shipped out from one rim of Federation space to the other.  "Originally the job was to be handled by your previous liason but she was called away to other duties."

"Liaison to keep the peace?"  She snorted.  The entire idea of having someone aboard to keep the peace was ridiculous.  'Do they believe that I cannot run this ship?'  Shiarrael wondered- but she knew the answer.  They didn't trust her, they never had.  "If your handlers had more sense than a pile fvai dung they would remove the Marine presence from this ship."  She stopped in front of the door and slid her fingers across the side panel.  She looked at Thorten as the doors slid open "there is a terran saying- setting one up for failure?  I believe this is a correct assessment of this situation?"

Thorten leaned against the wall as the Captain ranted about this and that and the other thing as well.  "Are you always so damn negative?  Or are you just used to all of your orders from ch'Rihan always making sense when you get them?" he inquired.  He hadn't heard much about the Romulan command structure but he figured there was just as much chickenshit across the neutral zone as there was in this mans navy and Marine Corps.  "Captain you have been presented with an opportunity to as the old terran saying says 'get the monkey off of your back' or at least kick him away for a good long time.  Now you can help yourself by taking advantage of that situation, or you can be mad about the underlying implications and waste a good opportunity."

Her eyes narrowed.  "Good opportunity?  This nuisance is anything but."  Shiarrael carefully clasped her hands behind her back in a small part to calm her nerves "where I come from Gai'Shian, as we call you, know their place.  If I tell them to walk, they walk, if I tell them to jump, they jump, if I tell them to die, they die.  However, your marines, either through poor training or lack of inherited intelligence cannot even follow the simplest orders or comprehend the simplest ideal- such as loyalty or respect.  If I must work with you I will- if I must tolerate you, I will.  However, do not expect me to be pleased while doing it.  This is a distraction."

"Funny.  I'm fairly certain that's the same style of thought that caused the Marines to rise up against you in the first place.  'They're all the same.'  And so on..." Sam replied with a raised eyebrow.  "I won't try to change your mind anymore though Captain.  If you cannot see a positive in this, please continue to believe as you do instead of making this into a better situation for yourself.  I won't trouble you any longer," Sam said as he bowed his head ever so slightly.  "I will see you later captain."

She watched him leave, smirked, and then entered her quarters.
